These two articles describe the issue of burnout in the healthcare community and a study spearheaded by past president Oscar de Leon-Casasola, MD, to better understand the state of burnout among ASRA members in order to identify appropriate educational resources to assess and prevent its occurrence. Dr. de Leon-Casasola, MD, is the senior vice-chair and professor of anesthesiology (Tenure Track) in the department of anesthesiology and a professor of medicine at the University at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He is also the chief of the Division of Pain Medicine and a professor of oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY.
